We are very excited to launch our new blog section.

The North End Community Health Association strives to create an inclusive and healthy environment. We are committed to creating and nurturing a space that promotes positive behaviors. NECHC staff, clients, and patients are responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner whereby harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated.

Our collaborative team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, mental health nurses, dietitians, and others collaborate to provide services and programs to our clients. Working together, this team responds to the factors that impact the health and well-being of our clients. We embrace a respectful, diverse and inclusive community where every person can be in an environment that is supportive and respects the dignity and worth of all members of the North End Community free of harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Our mission is to support the health and well-being of our community through quality primary health care, education, and advocacy.

    + and more

The North End Community Health Centre (NECHC) was established in 1971 in response to an absence of primary health care and other health services in Halifax’s North End. Its original advocates were three determined women who persuaded a team of Dalhousie Medical School physicians to establish the first-ever primary health clinic. Located on Gottingen Street, we are in the heart of a unique and culturally diverse community.

Today, governed by the North End Community Health Association, the NECHC is viewed by area residents as a “beacon of hope” in the community. Much more than a Primary Care Clinic, the NECHC has expanded in response to unmet needs of community members and is highly-valued by its patients and clients and their families. NECHC now provides services to those living on the margins of society, through MOSH and Housing First. As well, it provides a wide range of community outreach initiatives.

NECHC is a non-profit organization and is funded through various grants and charitable donations. We are also partners with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

The North End Community Health Centre is a non-profit organization – a fact very few people realize. We rely on the generosity of individual and corporate donations, as well as grants from foundations and government programs. Please consider making a donation to the NECHC today.
